Foods to reduce constipation & general habits to relieve constipation

Foods that helps relieve constipation

The good thing about constipation is that with right changes in diet, you can help and relieve yourself from it! Thumb rule is, include foods with high fiber content, improve your water content and reduce refined meals. 

General foods which help you improve constipation situation: 

  • Leafy vegetables like cabbage, spinach, carrots, radish
  • Fresh fruits are of great value in overcoming this condition since it contains roughage.
  • Adequate intake of water, 10-12 glasses per day. 
  • Water with lemon in the morning also helps in evacuation.
  • Fat intake induces lubricant effect and stimulating action, foods like butter, cream, ghee and oils, in reasonable amounts are useful
  • Bananas, dried fruits like prunes, figs, raisins, dates, apricots
  • Brewer's yeast
  • Kala namak

How can you fix your constipation?

We also wanted to share some general guidelines that will help you be free of constipation. Try and get these into your daily lifestyle for a long term, constipation free life :)

  • Start your day with warm water plus lemon.
  • Develop a regular habit of evacuation.
  • Eat at the same time, everyday.
  • Exercise or atleast walk 20-30 min everyday
  • Prefer split pulses and pulses with husk over others (moong chhilka, urad chhilka, moong dhuli, urad dhuli,chana split)
  • Consume vegetable soups
  • Use kala namak in your diet
  • Drink warm milk at bedtime
  • Incase you eat rice, cook them in liberal amounts of water (upto 4 times)
  • Keep drinking water throughout the day!

Constipation can be managed with a healthy routine life full of fibre rich foods, water and exercise!
