Do pictures of celebrities with their post pregnancy weight loss journeys bother you? Do you think your extra kilos are here to stay? Well, they are not.
Losing weight post delivery is not as tough as it is thought to be.
During pregnancy, the woman gains weight as both her tissues and tissues of the foetus increase and develop. An appropriate maternal weight gain during pregnancy correlates closely with infant birth weight, which is a predictor of health and subsequent development of the infant. By the full term of pregnancy, the gain in weight for a healthy woman is 11-13 kg, which goes up to 17kg.
Once the baby is delivered, often mothers start to feel bad about their ill figured obese bodies.
It is then, when it is important to understand that, healing of the body from childbirth and taking care of the newborn are primary priorities.
Optimum nutrition is of great importance for women during this time as the nursing mother not only has to nourish herself but also the infant who is being breastfed. Generally, the child is breastfed for 6-9 months.
